In 2012, The Rhode Island Free Clinic provided nearly 8,000 patient visits through its active corps of 700 volunteers, a lean professional staff of 7, and 5 AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers. Even with this success, conservative estimates are that at least 40,000 Rhode Islanders will lack health-care coverage after 2014. We need your help to care for uninsured, working poor adults who otherwise have no access to health care. As a current Clinic Volunteer Provider, Dr. Nicholas Califano said, "I give of my time and I give it to people who really need help, people in our communities who are underserved. People just like the rest of us but maybe going through hard times and need a little help." Please also see our recent OpEd in the Providence Journal highlighting the success of the Clinic and our urgent need for volunteers, specifically for medical providers.
